SSBC Board Appointments and Call for Expressions of Interest

SSBC Board Appointments and Call for Expressions of Interest

The SSBC Board of Directors wishes to provide an update regarding the leadership of Speed Skating BC. Graeme Jahns has been appointed to the role of SSBC President and Ngoc Huynh has been appointed to the role of SSBC Vice President. These appointments were made in accordance with Bylaw 6.7(2) and will remain in effect until the next Annual General Meeting.

The Board recognizes that the organization has experienced a difficult and challenging period. Our focus now is on moving forward, supporting our clubs and members, and ensuring that SSBC continues to serve the speed skating community across British Columbia. We also recognize the many volunteers who have continued to give their time, energy and support during this challenging time. Their commitment to our sport and our community is deeply appreciated.

There are currently vacancies on the SSBC Board of Directors, and we are seeking Expressions of Interest from current members who are interested in contributing to the organization in a governance role. There is important work ahead, and having more volunteers involved will help strengthen the Board and share the workload as we move forward together.

Expressions of Interest should be submitted to Graeme Jahns at graeme.jahns@speedskatingbc.ca and should include confirmation of eligibility under Bylaw 6.3(3 to 6), a brief description of why you are interested in serving on the Board, and a brief description of your speed skating and/or governance experience. Coaching experience is considered an asset. Please note that Bylaw 8.6(1 to 2) restricts SSBC employees or contractors from becoming Board members until a one year waiting period has been completed, and vice versa. Club coaches are welcome and encouraged to put their names forward.

Thank you everyone for your commitment to our sport and we look forward to the exciting year ahead.

Sincerely,

SSBC Board of Directors
