FUNDAMENTALS COACH
The courses will provide coaches with foundational knowledge and understanding of speed skating technique, equipment, and practice planning in order to be able to design and lead an effective Learn to Speed Skate and/or introductory speed skating program focused on skill development and fundamental movement skills.
Participants may choose to register for any/all of the following modules (to be delivered online):

- FUNdamentals Coach: Technique – May 9th, 2025 7:00 – 8:30 pm
- FUNdamentals Coach: Equipment 1 – May 23rd, 2025 7:00 – 8:30 pm
- FUNdamentals Coach: Peer Teaching – May 31st, 2025 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

INTRODUCTION TO COMPETITION
The Introduction to Competition certification is for coaches prepared to provide developing skaters with the basic skills necessary for successful competition, with an emphasis on technical development and seasonal practice plan design. With this certification level, one can assume the responsibilities of head coach for skaters in the Learning to Train and Training to Train stages of development. It is the minimum certification required to coach at national Championships and selection events.
These modules cover topics ranging from an introduction to biomechanics and performance analysis, to sport nutrition and the development of basic mental skills. It builds on a coach’s previous training by further exploring equipment, seasonal training programs and practice plan design.
Participants may choose to register for any/all of the following modules (to be delivered online):
- Introduction to Competition – Introduction – 90 min – April 16 7-8:30 pm
- Introduction to Competition – Technique – 3.5 hours – May 14 & 21 7-8:45 pm
- Introduction to Competition – Strategy & Tactics – 2 hours – April 30 7-9 pm
- Introduction to Competition – Analyze Performance – 3.5 – June 1 8:30-12pm
FUNDAMENTALS LEADER – Virtual, September 20, 2025
This coaching course is intended for active skaters and parents looking to work as assistant coaches for Learn to Skate, Learn to Speed Skate and introductory speed skating programs. Over the course of one day, attendees will be equipped with the necessary tools to work with a small group of skaters teaching basic skating skills in a safe, fun, and welcoming environment.
