🏆CHAMPION Huge congratulations to Tara Ashrafi from the Fort St John Elks Speed Skating Club, recipient of the Speed Skating BC Champion Award! Being a champion isn’t just about podium finishes, it’s about character. This award recognizes individuals who care deeply, choose to learn, and take the first step to advocate for others.

Tara wanted to make speed skating more accessible for everyone. She attended specialized workshops on adapted programming, asked questions, and took those lessons directly to public skating sessions to support her community members. Through her spirited advocacy, fundraising, and dedication to supporting persons with disabilities, she is truly helping plant the seeds of inclusion across our province.

Are you organized, detail-oriented, and able to stay calm under pressure? The Competitor Steward/Sport Expert plays a vital role in competition success by working alongside the Meet Coordinator and Chief Referee to prepare race rounds and ensure skaters are assigned to the correct races.

To support the development of this essential officiating role, Speed Skating BC is offering an in-person Competitor Steward Clinic on June 13, 2026, at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

This full-day clinic will be facilitated by Tina Peters, International Competitor Steward (Short Track) and Sport Expert (Long Track).

Whether you're looking to expand your officiating skills or take the next step in your speed skating journey, this is a great opportunity to learn from one of Canada's leading experts.
