Notice of Annual General Meeting

Dear Speed Skating BC members,

Speed Skating BC is pleased to announce our Annual General Meeting and Congress will take place in person in Kamloops at the McArthur Island Sport Council meeting space. The Congress will take place on Saturday May 14th and the AGM will be in the morning of Sunday May 15th.

The full day congress will be an opportunity to share and discuss information for the upcoming season. The formal Annual General Meeting will be held on Sunday Morning. Voting at the AGM will be conducted in person and according to the Association’s By-Laws.

For those who will be attending, we have secured a preferred rate at the Holiday Inn & Suites at 675 Tranquille Road in Kamloops of $169.00 plus tax. Reservations can be made by contacting the Hotel directly at 250-376-8288 and identifying the block name ‘Speed Skating BC AGM’. Some funding will be available to clubs to assist with travel expenses.

Please note, there will be an information session on April 28th at 7:00pm for the proposed Policy changes that will be brought forward for ratification at the AGM. Policies are posted on the Governance page under the tab “Policies for Ratification at 2022 AGM“. To REGISTER HERE to attend the Policy information session.

A formal call for nominations will also be made available shortly. Please consider volunteering for either a Board or Committee position. It is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the sport and to learn more about Speed Skating.

Nominate a Board of Director of Committee position (Vice President, Treasurer, Director, Athlete Development, Coach Development, Officials Development, Sport Development, and Awards)

Being involved with the Board has been a great way for me to remain involved with speed skating. Working with the Board has given me a chance to learn and grow personally while giving back to the sport at the same time.

Like most of our members, I became involved in Speed Skating to support my daughter. She is passionate about speed skating. Emilee has moved on and is now Skating for a club in Montreal. There are many reasons that I have stayed with Speed Skating BC. I enjoy the sport. The competitions are great. It is interesting watching the skaters work hard to achieve their best. The BC speed skating community are a great bunch of folks that are all dedicated to the sport and the skaters. I can say that it has been a pleasure meeting everyone involved with Speed Skating in BC. I am dedicated to keeping the sport safe, inclusive and fun.

I joined the CDC to give back and learn more about the organization. I also wanted to share my perspective as a coach in a different sport (and now a coach in training in speed skating) as well as representing long track speed skating and the north of the province.
